Who We Are

Crawford Conservation, Inc. is located in Columbia South Carolina.  For eight years we have provided the highest quality, professional painting, book, and paper conservation services.  Our skilled staff has a combined conservation experience of 40 years.  Among our clients are many public and private museums, universities, churches, and individuals. 

 

Conservators:

         Craig Crawford - Professional Associate, AIC

  • Apprenticed for eight years with Charles Olin of Olin Conservation, Inc. in Washington, D.C., conserving a variety of paintings and murals.  Mr. Olin is the former head of Painting Conservation at the Smithsonian American Art Musuem and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C
  • Roy Croft Inn, East Aurora, N.Y. Worked with James Hamm, Professor of Painting Conservation, Buffalo State College on the treatment of 16 large paintings by Alex Fournier.
  • Associate Painting Conservator for Cunningham-Adams Fine Art Conservation on location during the treatment of a large section of the Brumidi Corridors at the United States National Capitol painted by Constantino Brumidi in lime wash fresco.
  • Received B.F.A. from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.
  • President, Crawford Conservation, Inc. for nine years.

 

         Carol Crawford - Professional Associate, AIC

After recieving her MFA degree in Printmaking from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Carol was employed in the Conservation Division of the Library of Congress for seven years.  She has also worked in the South Carolina Department of Archives & History as Conservator and the University of South Carolina Libraries as Laboratory Director/Senior Conservator.  Carol has worked with Crawford Conservation, Inc. for six years.

      

Our Facility:

       Currently we work out of a 700 sq.ft. studio and are in the process of expanding to a new facility that will have approximately 2000 sq. ft dedicated to the treatment of objects.  Both facilities are equipped with security systems to protect from fire and theft.  The new studio will be located on 20 acres in Lexington County approximately 20 mi. from Columbia.
