Services

At Crawford Conservation, Inc. our process generally begins with the client contacting us with questions about their collection.  Of course, some answers are limited without having the ability to examine the objects in person.

Oftentimes objects have been treated in the past which can at times complicate treatment.  The examination allows us to determine what has happened in the past and what is necessary to preserve the object for the future.  These initial visits are free of charge or obligation.  Generally at this time the object(s) are left with us at the studio and an Intake Form is filled out that provides us with the client's contact information as well as an insurance preference.  We can provide insurance for fire, theft, or flood at the charge of $1.00 per $1,000.00 per month.  If the client desires this insurance they will need to declare a value on the intake form.

Crawford Conservation, Inc. then completes a detailed examination report that includes a treatment proposal, cost estimate, and authorization form.  There is a $100.00 fee for the examination report if treatment is not authorized. If the client decides to authorize the conservation treatment, they would need to send in the signed authorization form.  Payment for treatment is generally billed in thirds, the first third accompanying the authorization form, the second third midway through treatment, and the final third upon completion.

We are also prepared to travel to look at objects throughout the Southeast when it is convenient and it is possible to coordinate numerous appointments.  Travel time may be charged for on site examinations as necessary for mural conservation proposals.
